Importing a data backup

There is no automated solution for importing a data backup. Please proceed as follows:

When using a Microsoft Access database or SQLite database with Xpert-Timer, data backups are automatically created when Xpert-Timer is closed, if this is set in the configuration. If you are using a MySQL or MS-SQL database, you must take care of the data backup on the server yourself.

Access databases in particular are not very forgiving of power failures or other operating system crashes. You will often receive the following error message:

Error loading database: Message "Unrecognizable database format ..."

Here's how to get your data back:

You can specify the path where your data backups are stored in the "Data backup" tab in the configuration.

The data backups are saved in the following format: xt_20100630_10-47.mdb or xt_20100630_10-47.sqlite (depending on whether you use SQLite or Access as your database).

20100630 means: June 30, 2010, 10-47 means: 10:47 a.m.

If you no longer know your database path, it is best to search your C: drive for files named xt_*

Here are step-by-step instructions for importing the data backup:

1.) Locate the latest data backup, prior to the day your Access database crashed.

2.) Create a copy of the file and rename it xt.sqlite or xt.mdb (for Access).

3.) In your program directory, there is a folder called "Database." Open the folder and rename the existing xt.mdb file to z.V. xt_alt.mdb.

4.) Now copy the xt.mdb file created and renamed from the backup into this "Database" folder.

5.) Start the Xpert Timer.

If you still encounter database problems, you may need to import a backup with an older date.
